BBQ-Inspired Special Event Menu

Food & Cooking Blog

If you're looking for a specific type of food to serve during a spring, summer or even an early fall event, consider a BBQ-inspired menu. Many barbequed foods can be prepared and served outdoors, making it ideal for warm-weather gatherings.

You can create a BBQ-themed menu for any type of special event or occasion, such as kids' and adults' birthday parties, holiday get-togethers, family and class reunions, anniversary soirees, housewarmings, bachelorette parties, and even bridal and baby showers.

Since barbequed foods are so diverse, you will have no problem pleasing even the pickiest people on your guest list. There are many items that will please kids, and accommodate even vegetarian and vegan diets as well. Be sure to take any of your guests' dietary concerns or restrictions in mind when developing the perfect party menu.

You can use your favorite BBQ restaurant as inspiration when making the menu, or if your budget allows, have the eatery cater the event. As another option, have just the meat catered, and make the side dishes yourself to save both time and money.

Here are some BBQ-inspired menu ideas to get you started:

1. Build-Your-Own-Burger Bar

When you need to accommodate a large crowd, you can't go wrong with a build-your-own-burger bar. You can have your local BBQ restaurant provide all of the pre-cooked burgers, and even sausages and hot dogs, along with the condiments and buns.

Set the bar up on a long table either indoors or out, depending on the event space. Serve a few different types of burgers, such as ground beef and turkey, as well as vegetarian patties made from a mix of vegetables, grains, and black beans.

Treat your guests to all of the fixings, such as ketchup, mustard, relish, chopped onions, and even cheese sauce. More gourmet-style toppings include guacamole, grilled mushrooms, blue cheese crumbles, and fried onion straws.

2.  Side Dishes

Don't forget the BBQ-inspired side dishes to round out your special event meal. Classic sides include any type of potato salad, pasta salads featuring fresh vegetables, potato chips and dip, French fries, and onion rings.

Other side dishes to consider are baked beans, coleslaw, grilled corn on the cob, and even macaroni and cheese, which can be the main course for children if need be. You can go gourmet with seasonal options including watermelon and feta cheese salad, a fresh mozzarella, cherry tomato and basil caprese salad, and spinach and artichoke dip.

Consider having a local restaurant cater your next BBQ event, like Grumpy's Bar B Que Roadhouse.
