How exactly do Keurigs work?
They work by filling up a reservoir with water. When someone wants coffee, they will choose the flavor they want, and that's offered in single-serve pods. Take the pod and place it in the space located front and center for the pod. Once the pod is inserted, push the handle down until you hear and feel it penetrate the top of the pod. Select the size of cup you want to be made and place the right sized coffee cup under the spout and then press the 'on' button. Within seconds, your fresh coffee will be directly poured right into your coffee cup.
How easy are they to maintain?
For the most part, you will only have to worry about keeping the reservoir filled with water and occasionally wiping out the area where the pod sits. After a while, you may need to clean the unit. You can wash the reservoir area with liquid dish soap and water, then rinse it well. You can them wash the pod area, the spot and the outside with a soapy sponge and then rinse it as well.
Do you have to use pods?
The pods make it convenient for you to get your cup of coffee quickly and easily. It also makes it easy for you to switch flavors as often as you want. However, if you want to use the Keurig for your regular coffee that you have purchased by the can, you can do this as well. You can buy pods made of plastic that have a screen in them and that fit right into the unit the same way the pods do. You can open the lid on these reusable pods, fill them with your coffee grounds, close the lid and insert them just as you would the regular pods.
